I was born in Taranto, Italy, on June 1, 1966 and received the "Laurea" degree
(summa cum laude) in Computer Science from the University of Bari, Italy, in 1989.
After spending about a year at the IBM Scientific Center in Rome,
I became Assistant Professor at the University of Bari, Italy, in 1991.
Since March 1995, I am with the University of Venice "Ca' Foscari",
where I am currently an Associate Professor of Computer Science and the Chair of
the Computer Science School.
I've held visiting research/teaching positions at the following institutions:
-
University of York,
Department of Computer Science,
York, England
(Summers 1995 and 1996)
-
McGill University,
Center for Intelligent Machines,
Montreal, Canada
(October-November 1995, December 2008-January 2009)
-
Universität Wien,
Institut für Statistik, Operations Research und Computerverfahren,
Vienna, Austria
(January 1997 and June 1999)
-
Yale University,
Department of Computer Science,
New Haven, CT, USA
(August 1997-January 1998 and July-August 1998)
-
University College London,
Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit, London, England
(September 2000)
-
NICTA,
Australian ICT Center of Excellence, Canberra, Australia
(February 2009)
My main research interests are in the areas of computer vision,
pattern recognition, and machine learning, with an emphasis on optimization, graph-theoretic, and game-theoretic issues.
I am the Scientific Coordinator of the EU FP7 SIMBAD Project.
I am a Fellow of the IAPR
and a Senior Member of the IEEE.
