Travel Informations

There are several ways of getting to Venice:

By car

The Ponte della Libertà bridge connects Venice to the mainland and ends at Piazzale Roma, the only part of the city where cars can enter. There are several indoor and outdoor car parks in Piazzale Roma that vary in the parking fees asked: find the fees they apply and choose one that is most convenient for you. You can also park at the Tronchetto, which you reach by turning right immediately at the end of the Ponte della Libertà bridge, just before you get to Piazzale Roma. At the Tronchetto there are some indoor and outdoor car parks. You can get to the city center easily from both these points by vaporetto (the Venice water buses), water taxi or on foot.

By train

If you come to Venice by train, you will arrive at the Santa Lucia Railway Station, a large building located at the beginning of the Grand Canal in the Santa Croce area of the city. It is easy to reach the city center on foot walking down the Strada Nuova or by taking the water bus from one of the jetties that are opposite the station.

By Plane from Marco Polo airport

You can get to the city from the “Marco Polo” airport in various ways: by water taxi, by the Alilaguna motor boat or using the “Venezia Air Terminal” bus.

Bus ATVO:

The ATVO also offers a direct connection from Marco Polo Airport to Mestre Train Station. Public Bus Line 15 connects the airport to Mestre Train Station. For details on timetables you can check ACTV website www.actv.it.

Public ACTV watertaxi service:

It is a private watertaxi service which uses public transport's stops - therefore it offers less expensive prices than private taxis. It links the airport to some of the most important areas of Venice. The service includes the Alilaguna Red Line -between brackets are the approximate lenghts of time for each stop- which stops at Murano (30'), Lido (55'), Arsenale (1h.05'), S.Marco (1h.10') and the Zattere (1h.20') and the Alilaguna Blue Line which stops also at Fondamenta Nuove (30') and at S.Marco (58'). The Alilaguna connects the Airport to Venice Port as well. Both lines leave each hour. For more detailed information on ticket prices and timetables please visit the Alilaguna website www.alilaguna.it.

Car taxis:

It takes 15 minutes to get to Piazzale Roma (radiotaxi Mestre tel.+39-041-936222). Once you reach Piazzale Roma you can easily start your tour of Venice on foot or by waterbus.

Private Water taxis:

It is the fastest means to reach the historical centre - approximately 30 minutes - but also the most expensive.
